About NYKripalu

The New York Center for Kripalu Yoga and Health is a volunteer-run organization of people whose lives have been touched by Kripalu teachings.  We are not legally or financially affiliated with the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Lenox, MA. However, we are part of the larger Kripalu Yoga Community.

Click here to visit the Kripalu website and find information on their wonderful retreats, programs, and teacher training.

Mission Statement of the New York Center for Kripalu Yoga and Health

The New York Center for Kripalu Yoga and Health is an organization cooperatively managed by volunteer supporters and teachers of Kripalu Yoga and other activities inclusive of Kripalu Yoga.  Such activities include services, events, workshops, and classes related to Kripalu Yoga, Kripalu DanceKinetics, meditation and the healing arts (ayurveda, yoga therapy, thai yoga massage therapy), kirtans (singing, chanting, drumming), satsangs (community sharing and discussion of writing, poetry, philosophy), and other activities related to Eastern and cultural art forms.  Our mission is to create a spiritual community in New York City guided by the teachings and love brought to us by our Kripalu lineage and Swami Kripalvananda (Bapuji), the inspiration behind The Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, MA.  Our intention is to provide a safe, nurturing, and peaceful environment where personal growth and learning can take place through the art and science of Kripalu Yoga sadhana (spiritual practices) and seva (selfless service) in the company of like-minded people.  We wish to inspire the pursuit of truth, a healthy lifestyle, and the experience of the Light within each of us.

May we be protected together

May we be nourished together

May we work together with great vigor

May our study be enlightening

May there be no hatred between us

OM Peace Peace Peace

Lead us from the unreal to the real

Lead us from darkness to light

Lead us from death to immortality

Jai Bhagwan! We honor the spirit within you!

  1. Discussion List on Bapuji and Living/Evolving Kripalu Teachings in the World
As an inspiration from the December 2004 Bapuji retreat at Kripalu in Lenox, a group has been set up on the internet for people to be in community about how we are manifesting Kripalu yoga in the world. Lenox MA is an important but not the only source for this information, so please show up and participate in the discussion. Want to read notes from the retreat? How is the lineage being transmitted in the 21st Century? Do you need inspiration or help with a project related to Kripalu dharma? The "Bapuji - Kripalu dharma" tribe is a discussion group on tribe.net, a free service for connecting to a community of people with common interests. This is the place to have the conversation about the Kripalu lineage and legacy, our experiments in love, and anything else related to Bapuji. Please check it out and spread the word- see http://bapuji.tribe.net/ To join, click the button in the upper right corner and create a profile with as much or as little information as you want.
Go to http://bapuji.tribe.net/ and check it out.

  2. NYC Kirtan Bulletin Board / Discussion Group
Looking for a central place to get info about kirtan and other devotional events in NYC? Check out the NYC Kirtan group on tribe.net, where anyone can post information about chanting events and interested people can connect with each other. This is open for all kirtan events in the NY Metro area, not just those that are Kripalu-related. Feel free to spread the word and post events that you're involved with. Tribe.net is a free service for connecting to people who share common interests. Visit it at http://nyckirtan.tribe.net/ - to join, click the button in the upper right corner to create a profile.

So spread the word - go to http://NYCkirtan.tribe.net/ and check it out.

Karma Yoga

  • Upcoming seva opportunities include non-profit incorporation, teacher scheduling, special events, and bulletin production. Please get in touch via the phone line to volunteer.

Want to get more Involved?

  • The NY Kripalu Center is a completely volunteer organization. Anything that happens is because
someone cares enough to do it. Words are not adequate for the gratitude I feel towards Adrienne,
Mary Lou, Joan, Helen, Tamar, Larry, and of course, the stalwart and cheerful Allen.
So here’s a few suggestions for what we could use help with –
please contact me if you’re interested or have other ideas that you’d like to put into action

    • Answering the phone line for a few weeks

    • Making a few phone calls on the Center's behalf

    • Finding space for activities

    • Exploring non-profit status

    • Organizing events for the NY Center
